6D5N LADY ELLIOT ISLAND - UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY & FREEDIVING
Lady Elliot Island is located at the southern tip of the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef. Situated within a highly protected ‘Green Zone’, the island is a sanctuary for over 1,200 different marine species including mantas, dolphins, turtles, and even whales that passes through during the months between May and October. The water surrounding the island has fantastic clarity with unspoilt coral reef that is renowned to be one of the best spots in Australia for snorkelling and scuba diving, with excellent visibility and bright sunny sky that makes it perfect for underwater photography. Not only home to marine life, the island attracts a fascinating mix of vegetation, birds and other wildlife, from octopus bushes, cassuarinas, pisonia and other herbs and shrubs, to numerous birds such as buff banded rails, ruddy ternstones, silvereyes, and even frigate birds.
This island has just one Resort, an award winning Eco Resort with excellent facilities for our guests to enjoy a comfortable stay under their state of the art solar panel design that generates almost 100% of energy entirely by the sun. There are a limited amount of people allowed on the island each day to ensure minimal impact to the environment and a premium experience is provided to all participants.
Maximum spot for this tour is 6, so book your spots early!
Instructor: Kohei
Kohei is an international award winning photographer from Japan, specialising in freediving and underwater photography. He picked up his first camera in 2014 when he quit his job at Google to travel the world, capturing images along that way that won him 1st place at the 2016 Sony Alpha Art House Competition. This helped him get his first underwater housing as well as a trip to Tonga to swim with whales, a perfect gift for someone who was already a passionate freediver with an obsession for the ocean.
Since then he’s won multiple awards with numerous work published locally and abroad. Most recently in 2019 he was awarded IPA Sports Photographer of the Year, as well as 2nd place at the Sony World Photography Awards with his work on freediving. Today he continues to spread the beauty of the ocean and the intricacy of this sport as a freedive instructor, freedive photographer and athlete, inspiring more people to get in and start exploring, not only deep into the ocean, but deep within themselves.
