With over 60% of the course comprising practical activities and exercises, the advantage of attending this course lies in the ease of applying theories and formulas to real-world applications.

Here are just a few examples of the photos you can capture using the skills you will learn:
 
LIGHT TRAILS   PANNING

  • This course is open to learners of all camera brands.
  • Please bring your own mirrorless camera, capable of manual operation, with a standard zoom lens or prime lens within 24-50mm (35mm full-frame equivalent).
  • It is useful, but not necessary, to have knowledge of how to navigate your camera menu, adjust exposure settings and change focus modes and areas. The trainer will be able to assist you if you do not meet these prerequisites.
  • A tripod will be required during the Chinatown Outdoor Practical to practise Learning Units 1 and 2. If you do not have one, please contact us to arrange a complimentary loan at least three working days before the course starts, subject to availability.
  • Download the 'Google Classroom' app on your mobile device, as we will be using it to facilitate learning and distribute course materials.
  • Download Adobe's 'Lightroom Photo & Video Editor' app on your mobile device before Learning Unit 3 on Day 3.
  • The course will be conducted in English.

Learning Unit 1: Camera and Exposure
By the end of this unit, you will be able to confidently operate your mirrorless camera to capture striking photos by controlling key settings, such as aperture, shutter speed and focus, and adjusting to varying lighting conditions.

  • Understand the principles of mirrorless cameras and their popularity in modern digital imaging.
  • Identify and use common tools and features of mirrorless cameras.
  • Learn focus techniques, including hyperfocal distance, to ensure sharp images of your subjects.
  • Learn how your camera captures a scene and adjusts exposure settings.
  • Creatively control your camera's settings (aperture and shutter speed) to achieve the desired visual effect.

Learning Unit 2: Colour and Communication
You will learn how colour and composition can be used to tell engaging and expressive stories.

  • Learn basic colour theory and how different colours affect mood.
  • Discover how file types affect colour quality and accuracy during editing.
  • Identify common camera angles and describe how they influence the subject’s appearance.
  • Demonstrate how changing focal length and camera distance affects subject size and background perspective.
  • Develop the skills to compose images that clearly convey your intention.

Learning Unit 3: Digital Editing and Responding to Feedback
By the end of this unit, you’ll be able to enhance your photographs using Adobe Lightroom Mobile and confidently refine your work by incorporating constructive feedback.

  • Become familiar with the Adobe Lightroom Mobile interface and learn its key features.
  • Learn how to transfer your photos to your mobile phone and basic organisation.
  • Learn how to use the basic adjustment tools to enhance the appearance of your photographs.
  • Learn to use constructive feedback and perspectives to guide adjustments to your photographs.

About your Trainer: Gerald Lee
Gerald is an ACLP-certified adult educator with over 10 years' experience in the digital imaging field. He currently serves as a product trainer at Sony Electronics Singapore. Since 2006, his photographic journey has encompassed nearly every major brand, embracing both film and digital photography. His interests are deeply rooted in cameras and life photography – particularly street and documentary.

Drawing from years of hands-on practice and tinkering with cameras, Gerald is dedicated to sharing his technical expertise with like-minded photographers, guiding them on leveraging new technologies to improve their workflow.
